P90X | Week 5
Legs & Back
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

More kitty workout buddy fun, this time with Mittens between my feet during the manifold lunges and squats. This little buddy is fearless -- 185+ pounds of Tim doing crazy things overhead is no big deal. Nine lives all in tact, I'm guessing.

Have a question about P90X, the workouts or the diet? Feel free to email me directly at: timothymclain (at) yahoo dot com. You know how to make that into a real address...

Thinking of seeing the new Transformers movie this weekend? Read my former college roomate/prolific writer of reviews and consumer of all things cinema, Rich Drees, here.

Busy Friday, on to the weekend, then off to NECC in Washington, DC next week -- can't wait for the uber-tech-in-ed show, and a visit to Doug and JoAnne with little DAK, who will be a whole WEEK old on Monday. ;)

P90X | Week 5
Yoga X
Reps + Routine: 75%
Nutrition/Eating Log

You know what can mess with your concentration/Chi energy when doing this crazy routine?

Your very own kitten yoga block, all about our feet and hands. Not to mention using you as a low bridge during... bridge. Too funny, though!

Van's in the shop in the capable hands of AutoPark Honda and Deb is sitting in the waiting room... waiting. Time for some brake work, new tires, and a few other things. The usual once yearly big bill. Car fund, there it goes...

Will bike off last night's impromptu date w/Deb after dropping Will off at... church. (I like... today, don't I?) Little post-dinner snack I didn't need and a Mexican beverage = a little, but not too guilty.

P90X | Week 5
Back & Biceps
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Been a long time, Back and Biceps, I missed you. Tons of pull ups, lots of curls/hammers, and plenty of burn to go around. Had some pretty interesting tendon snapping in my right arms near the very end as I push the biceps to their limit, backed off from causing anything beyond the noise. Snap, crackle, pop @ 39, yes.

Mittens made her first appearance on icanhazcheeseburger.com above. Not a bad debut!

Been enjoying clean eating thanks to Kim -- here's my clean Black Beans and Rice, to which I added tons of additional beans to vary it up, along with some red and yellow pepper. Yummy, fulfilling, healthy stuff.

Mittens McLain | Album 2

P90X | Week 5
Plyometrics w/Cat Routine
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Cat routine = Mittens, our new small kitten of youthful vim and vigor, using my feet/legs/hands as her own playtoy during Plyo, putting her very first of nine lives in danger in the process.

Picture for you -- first move, squat down, jump up high, then down again with a kitten between my feet, 186 pounds of Tim jumping up and down = nothin' but a thang to this cat. Silly stuff.

Don't get me started on the gap jumps with this black and white feline streak bisecting my highest jump in its center to reach up and try to claw my shorts, every... time. Love it.

Here comes Peanut!

P90X | Week 5
Shoulders, Biceps, Triceps
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Exciting Monday shaping up! JoAnne, Will's Aunt, and Doug, his namesake Uncle, are at the hospital in Washington, DC, and Lil' Peanut is about to be born. We can't wait to see the newest Kinyon and Duffy child -- take care guys, be healthy and strong, and all three of you are in our prayers!

Father's Day was a very good, relaxing blur of breakfast in bed, presents, a long, long hike on the Tobacco Trail together as a family, some ice cream out and about, an early dinner, Vacation Bible School kick off for Will, and a brief Cheesecake/coffee dessert in Cary. Yes, some deviation from the Eat Clean/P90X, but I'm human... breaks and some dessert a few times a year are OK in my book.

Enjoy your week, stay positive, keep pushing play, and keep JoAnne, Doug, and Peanut in your thoughts. All good karms points to our nation's capital.

P90X | Week 4
Core Synergistics
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Friday of the ol' recovery week found me backtracking to Core City. Not a bad way to start the day -- lots of moves to focus on the mid-section. Love the side arm balance with hip lifts, the sphinx push-ups, wacky jacks, and all the rest.

Can't believe the week is just about shot. Onward to the weekend, and Father's Day... So blessed by William and Deb, hard to put into words. Be sure to ping your Dad this weekend folks. He'll be glad you did.

William's Story
Space Aliens: First Grade

Written, drawn, video'd, and voiced over by William as his first grade computer project. Enjoy! Watch out for those... peeing?... aliens.
Interactivity? Not until Project Natal @ XBox 360...

True next-generation gaming is right around the corner. Has to be seen to be believed -- fresh from the E3 conference. No more controller, makes the Wii look like child's play, and Sony's sticks/bow and arrow-style movements are totally blown away by Natal. Press play and enjoy.

P90X | Week 4
Wed.: Kenpo X & One on One Killer Abs
Thu.: X Stretch (Yum!)
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Ok, ok... Week 4 = recovery week. I get that. But doing Kenpo karate on a Wednesday? That's like moving your bowling night from Saturday to Tuesday... Same activity, but on an oddball day. Am I right?

Tacked on Tony's super-cool and quick One on One KillerAbs DVD. I like it better than the standard versions that shipped with P90X and P90X+ -- it's a quicker pace, more focused, and my lower back doesn't complain so much.

Onward to some fresh video production -- managed to get a pair done yesterday for my newspapers/public library marketing colleague up in Ann Arbor. View them here and here.

Weird Al | Craigslist Spoof Video

P90X | Week 4
Core Synergistics
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

And the recovery week continues, this time with an hour-long routine focusing on the abs and mid-section. Some special cardio moves thrown in for the extra calorie burn, and came out on the other side with slightly sore sides and thighs telling me it was all good.

Rode a little over 15 miles with Wes yesterday on the trail, excellent -- we get it done in a hurry and enjoyed the cooler air under the trees. Looks like the folks in Chat. County are wrapping up the northern end of the trail, working their way to the final 4-5 feet of the railroad bridge. Hoping by summer's end I might be able to ride all the way from Olive Chapel Road to Southpoint Mall.

I can dream anyway. Onward to two videos for ProQuest today -- ProQuest Historical Newspapers British Isles & Ireland Collection, then on to Dow Jones Factiva.com. [View the videos here and here.]

Then... deep breath... the all-new eLibrary. Full demo. Start to finish. Then finally, new SIRS Issues Researcher.

Recovery week, just in time... Sore back from bending over yesterday, constructing the crazy-great new standup workstation. Worked the kinks out, brought the burn to the thighs and shoulders, feeling energetic, calm, and fresh blood pumping all around.

On to another jam-packed week, hoping I'll be able to center on more ProQuest videos for back to school!

P90X | Week 3
Legs & Back
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

So there I was, proud to hit 1,600-1,700 calories post-dinner last night. Solid. Ok, how will this work out? Will I be hungry later? So far, 2,000 calories carried me just fine and didn't impact my workouts. But 1,650 or so? Let's see...

Yikes. Come 9:30 last night, hunger pangs. Big time. I get it. Tied on some protein shake, a Kiwi, an a little popcorn. All good, propped up my intake, off to bed.

Nailed Legs and Back today with nary an issue. Wall squats rocked, lots of pull-ups, and the leg moves were excellent.

Big meeting later this morning, lots to nail down, and still trying to get to more video production sometime... soon.

P90X | Week 3
Yoga X
Reps + Routine: 85%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Legs, I'm hearing you. The initial Warrior rounds were tough, given the extra-long trail ride yesterday during lunch, getting up and down was... rough. Made it through the hardest parts, but not without some grunting and twitching.

Came out the other side feeling the usual post-Yoga glow, and onward with a very full day. Enjoy your Thursday!

P90X | Week 3
Shoulders & Arms
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Scale, you're my friend again. Down from 198ish to 190 solid today in Week 3 of P90X Round 6, and will continue to keep the calories tracked at between 1,900 and 2,200.

Good to have a plan, push play, and keep my eye on the prize -- getting back down to the 180ish range with the best abs/arms/leg definition I can create.

Rock your Wednesday's folks -- keep pushing play!

Plyometrics
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Nothing like Plyo, and today, wow... Took the standard 30 sec. breaks, had plenty of energy to spare to get through it, all the way to the end. A sweaty mess, but the ol' body is in top form and I'm nailing the routines. Excellent.

Onward to some custom video production, one of the best parts of my "job" at ProQuest. Shooting at the same spot as the intro to our ProQuest Platform video here.

P90X | Week 3
Chest & Back
Reps + Routine: 100%
Nutrition/Eating Log

Monday morning show-stopper, yes indeed. Nailed Chest and Back, working up my push-up rep count (ouch!) hitting 15 pull-ups per move, enjoying the muscle failure. Post-workout breakfast was all eat-clean, and my arms are still shakin' and quakin' with a touch of dizziness on top. Did I bring it? Why yes, yes I did. Thanks for asking.

Lots to do this week, head down, push forward, with a smile... Results-city.
